Why shingles fail early in South Florida

Asphalt shingles stay flexible because of the oils inside them. Heat and UV cook those oils out until the shingles turn brittle, curl and start shedding granules. Signs to look for: grit in the gutters, bald spots, black algae streaks, curling edges, and faded, stiff tabs.

Rejuvenation is for asphalt shingle roofs that are aging but still structurally sound, typically 6 to 15 years old. Roofs with active leaks, soft decking or missing sections need repair or replacement instead. Tile and metal roofs aren't candidates. In independent lab testing by Intertek on a 15-year-old shingle, one Roof Reboot treatment cut granule loss by 93%, cut moisture getting through by 99.9%, and restored the shingle to pass 100% of flexibility testing, the same as a new shingle.
